Street Neighbour's Version

We're the people who live in the compound opposite that of our dramatic Anita and the guy who travelled a year ago. They were wonderful neighbours. Those two across the street, we saw how good they were to each other.
'This is how neighbours should live. Looking after one another, and not tearing themselves apart over who should sweep the compound, wash the toilet or even who stole my pot of soup!'. I said to one of my neighbours, Mrs Akpos as we sat on the balcony one evening in July last year.

Then, a woman whom we believed to be the mother of the guy came and things began to take a curious turn. We began to notice one kind intimacy between them. Hmmm! 'E be like say Romeo don find Juliet'. Mrs Akpos said, looking in the direction of our young neighbours with a mischievous smile on her face. ' And this time around, Romeo's mother is all smiles. Look at the way she treats her like she's her daughter'. I replied.
A few weeks later, the mother left, and not long after, we heard they would soon be getting married. Didn't we tell you!... We were so happy for the two love-birds. But to our greatest shock and dismay, we heard the guy had left the lady and travelled. Different stories from different directions.
Trust the people in our neighbourhood naa! Some said he defrauded the girl and ran away with another girl to Malaysia. Others said he stole from his office and ran off to America. Infact, the police was even looking for him! In all, what we knew was that he broke the girl's heart and ran off.
Our ever-smiling and humourous neighbour soon became a shadow of herself. We felt so sorry for her and secretly shared in her pains. Hmmm, guys self! Can't be trusted!...
Well, it has been over a year now and we've watched our darling neighbour all through. Thank God she's gradually returning to her old self.
And did I tell you? There is this new handsome guy that seems to be falling over for her. Abeg make she shine her eyes o! But, who knows. Fate might smile on our darling girl and her new handsome, smashing neighbour!...
Abeg make you tell your yard people o! *Closing my door*
