NPP lauds U.S’ plan to lift arms embargo against Nigeria

A U.S. delegation to Nigeria led by the head of the Congress Committee on Judiciary, Darrel Issa, had hinted Monday that it would review the Leahy Act that would ensure the lifting of arms
embargo placed on Nigeria.
The CNPP, which described the news as “heart-warming” said it was a major diplomatic breakthrough for Nigeria.
“For us, this is the first diplomatic breakthrough of President Buhari administration; a harvest and dividend of his uncommon integrity,” the group said.
“In other words Nigeria has been reconnected to the global community. Accordingly, we congratulate Presidents Barack Obama and Muhammadu Buhari because it is our candid view that the diplomatic breakthrough – lifting of arms embargo on Nigeria by President Obama, is a direct dividend of the integrity of President Buhari, an uncommon political capital, upon which Nigerians voted.”
The CNPP appealed to “Nigerians of all cadre, creed and political party, to candidly join Mr. President in laying a solid foundation for a new Nigeria.”
It said the decision of the U.S. Government to lift the embargo has doused the concern that Mr. Buhari’s recent trip to that country was a futile exercise and a jamboree.
